Today, September 5, 2026, I launched The After Hours Dreamer.
And Iām sitting here trying to wrap my head around the fact that I can finally type that sentence.
Not āIām thinking about starting a blog.ā
Not āIām working on a blog.ā
Not āone day Iām going to launch a blog.ā
I launched the damn blog.
If you knew how many years Iāve spent thinking about doing this, researching it, starting and stopping, getting distracted by another idea, convincing myself I needed to know more first, and somehow finding my way back to it again… youād understand why today feels like more than just publishing a website.
This feels like proof.
Proof that maybe I donāt have to have everything figured out before I start.
Proof that all those ideas Iāve carried around for years donāt have to stay ideas.
And proof that, apparently, I am stubborn enough to survive WordPress. š
The Blog That Kept Getting Put on the Back Burner
Iāve wanted to start a blog for years.
I honestly couldnāt tell you the exact year the idea first showed up. I just know itās been sitting somewhere in the back of my mind for a long damn time.
And I researched the hell out of it.
I searched YouTube. I searched Pinterest. I read about how to start a blog, what platform to use, what youāre supposed to write about, how youāre supposed to make money from it, and probably seventeen other things I didnāt even need to know yet.
The problem was, there was so much information that instead of helping me start, it overwhelmed me.
So eventually?
I said fuck it.
I put the whole idea on the back burner and went on with my life.
Work got in the way. Kids got in the way. Family got in the way. Stress got in the way. And, because my brain apparently loves collecting new interests like browser tabs, I went through plenty of other ADHD hyperfixations along the way.
The blog stayed back there.
Not completely forgotten. Just… waiting.
Then something changed this year.
Before I went on vacation, I decided I needed to get my ass into high gear. I was tired of constantly thinking about all the things I wanted to do without actually giving myself the chance to see what could happen if I finished them.
So I made myself start doing something that sounds incredibly simple but has been anything but simple for me:
One thing at a time.
One finished thing. Then the next.
Ironically, it took me buying a course about different side hustles to circle all the way back around to an idea Iād already had for years.
The blog.
And this time, instead of researching it to death and putting it back on the burner…
I started building it.
I Was Going to Learn WordPress If It Killed Me
This has been an experience.
I cannot even explain the amount of frustration that came with fighting WordPress and wanting to punch my laptop more times than Iād like to admit. š
Every night this week, after I finished working my actual job, I came back to this website.
And I stayed up until 1 a.m. night after night because I was determined that I was going to fucking finally learn WordPress.
There were moments when I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. Iād fix one thing and somehow find three more things that needed fixing. Something would look right on one page and completely wrong somewhere else.
And the screenshots.
My God, the screenshots.
So. Many. Screenshots. š
But thank God for AI walking me through it one step at a time, because eventually something started happening that I honestly wasnāt expecting.
It started clicking in my brain.
Iām a hands-on learner. I can watch tutorials and read instructions all day long, but sometimes I donāt really understand something until Iām actually in there doing it myself.
Clicking the buttons.
Breaking things.
Fixing them.
Asking questions.
Trying again.
Little by little, WordPress stopped looking like this giant thing I didnāt know how to do and started looking like something I was actually learning.
And today?
I have never been so damn proud of myself.
Because I finally did it.
Those tired nights after work paid off.
The frustration paid off.
The endless screenshots paid off.
The website is live.
And I built it.
The Day I Finally Hit Launch
Today I woke up feeling more refreshed than I had all week.
I had finally gotten some much-needed sleep after staying up way too late night after night working on this thing.
I got up, had my normal two cups of coffee, opened my laptop, and decided:
Today Iām launching this damn thing.
I only had one last walkthrough to do.
So I turned on my playlist, tried to focus, and started checking everything one more time.
Of course, real life was still happening around me. The kids needed things. My husband pulled me away here and there. I got distracted. Because apparently Launch Day does not come with a magical āeveryone leave Mom aloneā button. š
But I kept going.
At some point while I was working, a manifestation song came on my playlist.
And there I was, sitting in front of the blog I had wanted to create for years, almost finished with it, when the words appeared on my screen:
āI am ready for the magic, I am ready for it all.ā
The timing felt almost too perfect.
It felt like a little wink from the universe.
I had spent so much of the week wondering if I was ever going to be finished. Even that morning, part of me worried I was going to spend another entire day checking this shit.
One more page.
One more button.
One more tiny thing I could convince myself needed fixing before I was āready.ā
But eventually there wasn’t anything left to hide behind.
I was done.
So I launched it.
And the moment I picked up my phone and pulled up my website, my blog, on my own fucking domain…
It felt glorious.
There it was.
Not inside WordPress.
Not sitting in my imagination.
Not another idea on the back burner.
It existed.
I immediately ran to tell my husband.
Because after all the late nights, frustration, screenshots, research, distractions, abandoned attempts and years of saying I wanted to do this…
I finally had something to show for it.
The Dream Was Always There
I donāt know exactly where The After Hours Dreamer is going to take me.
The path wasnāt straight. The dream was.
Today, The After Hours Dreamer is a real website.
Tomorrow, Iāll go back to my regular life. Iāll work my job. Iāll take care of my family. Iāll probably have another idea when Iām supposed to be doing something completely unrelated. š
And when the workday is over?
Iāll keep building.
One thing at a time.
One finished thing at a time.
Iām not writing this from the finish line.
Iām writing it from the beginning.
And I think that might be the whole point.
š
